#1 Prep the Skin for a Flawless Makeup Application
The foundation for a flawless makeup application lies in proper skin preparation. holistic beauty makeup tips start with hydrated and well-moisturized skin. This will help your makeup lay more smoothly, and in many cases, you can use less makeup because your skin will be healthy and glowing.
1.) Before you begin your makeup application, you will want to choose whether or not to cleanse your skin. I prefer not to wash my face in the morning because it helps to protect the skin barrier, and the skin's natural oils make the perfect base for a flawless makeup application. However, doing what works best for your skin type is essential.
2.) The next step is to hydrate the skin with a holistic beauty facial toner. Using a toner after cleansing helps balance, calm, and hydrate the skin. It also helps skincare products absorb into the skin and spread more evenly.
3.) The next step is moisturizing your skin with a holistic beauty moisturizer or oil. I recommend using both. First use a moisturizer, wait for it to absorb, then apply a holistic facial oil on top. Oils can't hydrate the skin, but they do a fantastic job of locking in moisture.
4.) The next step is to apply a holistic beauty sunscreen to protect your skin from sun damage.
Pro tip: Wait at least fifteen minutes after applying your holistic skincare before applying your makeup to allow your products to absorb fully.

#2 Blend your Makeup Like a Pro
Holistic beauty makeup tip - blend like a pro for a healthy glow! One of the secrets to a flawless makeup application is to blend well so no streaks or harsh lines are visible. Your makeup should enhance your natural beauty instead of drawing attention to the makeup itself. Whether it be your foundation, contour, eye shadow, or blush, blend and then blend some more.
Invest in quality makeup brushes and blending tools. Different tools work better with specific products, so experiment to find what works best.
Pro tip: Look at your face from all angles in the mirror to ensure everything is seamless, blended, and flawless.
#3 Use your Face Powder Sparingly
Holistic beauty makeup tip - Use less face powder for a healthy glow to your skin. Face powder is an excellent way to set your holistic makeup products, to minimize shine, and extend its wear time. However, ensuring you don't apply too much is essential because it can accentuate fine lines and wrinkles and create a cakey look.
After applying your holistic beauty foundation or concealer, lightly dust the powder across the face with a fluffy brush. Focus on areas such as the forehead, chin, and nose. Under the eyes, use a small fluffy brush or makeup sponge to lightly dust a powder under the eyes to prevent creasing and smudging.
Remember that less is often more. Start with a small amount and build gradually to avoid a heavy or cakey look.

#4 Use Less Contour
Contouring the face is quite popular; however, using too much or, when done improperly, can make the face appear older and hollow. If you are of a certain age, the last thing you want to do is make your cheekbones excessively prominent. Our face naturally loses volume as we age, and accentuating it with too much contour can add years to the face. Compared to when we are younger, our faces are generally rounder and plump.
A good approach is to use contour sparingly to enhance your natural features without going overboard. Experiment with using less contour and take a few photos to see if you notice a difference.
#5 Use a Highlighter for a Youthful Glow
Let's face it not all of us wake up looking fresh and glowing every morning. Sometimes we have to fake it. As we age, our skin can appear dull and tired, and adding a bit of luminosity helps to bring life back to the face. A highlighter can add a youthful and radiant glow to your face, even on your most tired days.
How to use a highlighter for a healthy glow:
1.) Pick a highlighter shade that complements your skin tone. Pearl and champagne shades work well for fair skin. Rose gold or bronze tones work well for medium to deep skin tones.
2.) Apply highlighter to areas of the face where the light naturally hits your face. Sweep the highlighter on the highest points on the cheekbones, blending towards your temples. Apply a small amount beneath your eyebrows to lift and define your brow area. Brighten and open up your eyes by applying a small amount of highlighter to the inner corners.
3.) Blend, blend, and blend some more. Make sure there are no harsh lines. You want to create the appearance of healthy and glowing skin without visible signs of makeup.
4.) Remember, less is always more. The goal is to enhance your natural features rather than creating a glittery disco ball look.

#6 Avoid Synthetic Colorants in Lip Products
You might have heard the saying, "You are what you eat"? This statement is important to keep in mind, especially when it comes to your lip products. Many lipsticks and glosses contain synthetic colorants, which are often consumed since they are worn on the lips. The average woman is estimated to consume an average of four pounds of lipstick in her lifetime. Yikes!
The issue with synthetic colorants is that they are generally derived from petroleum and coal tar, which may be a carcinogen. I do not use any products with synthetic colors nor recommend them to my clients. There are much healthier ways to pigment makeup. However, it is ultimately your decision whether you feel comfortable using them or not. Doing your own research and deciding what works for you is essential. Knowledge is power.
What to look for on the label: Red 7 lake, orange 5 lake, FD&C, D&C, and similar synthetic color descriptions.

#7 Fill in Lips with a Liner for Longer Lasting Lipstick
Did you know that many of the long-lasting lipsticks on the market contain harmful ingredients such as PFAs? To get lipstick to last a long time on the lips, they generally need to use toxic chemicals to make them water resistant. A healthier way to make your lipstick last longer is to use a clean beauty lip liner all over your lips as a base. This simple practice will create a mattifying effect on your lips, creating a base for your lipstick to make it last longer. I love holistic beauty lipstick and lip liners. You can feel good knowing that the ingredients won't harm your health.
How to make your lipstick last longer
1.) Line your lips with a lip liner
2.) Apply the lip liner over your lips like a lipstick.
3.) Apply your lipstick.
4.) Voila! Gorgeous, long-lasting lipstick without having to use toxins.

#8 Make Eyes Pop By Choosing Contrasting Colors
A good rule of thumb when choosing an eye shadow shade is to look at the color wheel. Colors that are the opposite of your eye color will make your eyes pop.
Blue eyes: using colors such as golds, yellow, copper, peach and teracotta contrast with blue eyes and make them pop.
Brown eyes: using colors such as purples, blues, and greens will make brown eyes pop.
Green & hazel eyes: using colors such as purples, warm browns, earthy tones will enhance green and hazel eyes and make them pop.

#9 Use an Eyelash Curler to Open Eyes
Curling your lashes before applying mascara is an excellent way to make the lashes appear longer and your eyes appear more open. Use an eyelash curler that fits your eye shape and size for the best results.
1.) Hold the eyelash curler as close to the base as possible.
Press and hold for fifteen seconds.
2.) Open and close, pressing down gently each time and holding at the base.
3.) Look down and gently open and close the eyelash curler as you walk it up your lashes, which will help provide a curl to the middle of the lashes and help them appear longer.
Pro tip: Warm the eyelash curler in your hands for one minute before using it to curl your lashes. The heat will make the curling process much easier and more effective.
#10 Use an Eye Lash Primer for Volume & Length
If you have yet to try a mascara primer, I highly suggest one. It takes your lashes to a whole new level. A mascara primer helps lashes appear fuller, longer, and hold a curl. If you're like me and love full, long, and gorgeous lashes but dislike fake eyelashes, then you should try an eyelash primer. My eyelashes are long but they don't hold a curl very well without an eyelash primer.
The bonus of using an eyelash primer is that most clean beauty primers contain nourishing ingredients that protect your lashes and help them grow full and long. It's a win-win!

#11 Apply your Mascara Like a Pro
If you want to add volume and length to your eyelashes, follow these clean beauty tips.
1.) Look down into the mascara wand and hold it as close to the base of your lashes as possible.
2.) Wiggle the mascara wand back and forth at the base of the lashes in a sweeping motion to create volume. Wiggling back and forth creates volume, and combing through the lashes creates length. Many people skip the wiggle step, and miss out on creating volume.
3.) After wiggling it back and forth a few times, slowly pull the wand up through the lashes. Flick your wrist when you get to the very end of you lashes to create extra length.
4.) Repeat the process until you achive your desired look.

#12 Avoid Overly Filled Eye Brows
Eyebrows go in and out of style; however, one thing remains true: overly done eyebrows can overpower your facial features and draw too much attention to them. Overdoing it on eyebrow makeup will make them the focal point rather than complementing your overall look. Our eyes are naturally drawn to the most prominent thing on a person's face. Your brows should not be one of them. The goal of eyebrow makeup should be to enhance your natural brows and frame your eyes.
It's essential to apply eyebrow makeup with a light hand and build it up gradually. Use small, feathery strokes to fill in sparse areas and ensure the color matches your natural hair color or is slightly darker for a natural look.

#13 Switch to Clean Beauty Makeup Products
A healthy body is the foundation for beauty at every age. Beauty starts from the inside, and toxic beauty products can affect your appearance over time. The average woman is estimated to use 168 toxins in her beauty routine, which are applied to the body's largest organ, the skin. Many ingredients found in mainstream beauty products can negatively influence our hormones, weight, mood, and skin and accelerate aging. Slathering toxins on your skin to look younger seems a bit backward, doesn't it? Switching to clean beauty makeup products is an excellent way to naturally support your health and appearance.
The clean beauty industry has come a long way, and many high-performance brands exist.

#14 Wash your Makeup Brushes Weekly
Let's be honest, how often are you washing your makeup brushes? From experience, I have found that most people overlook this simple yet effective beauty practice. Not cleaning your makeup brushes can contribute to unnecessary blemishes and poor makeup application.
Dirty makeup brushes can accumulate bacteria and dead skin cells, which can clog pores and lead to the appearance of unhealthy skin. When the pores are clogged, the skin can get congested, leading to breakouts and the need for more makeup. Then, the bacteria from the new blemishes spread all over the face with the makeup brush, creating more blemishes. Do you see how this can be a problem?
Washing your makeup brushes every week can make a significant difference in the appearance of your skin and help your makeup look better. Dr. Bronner's Castile soap is an effective way to clean your makeup brushes. It is non toxic and contains gentle ingredients. A little goes a long way. Warm water and natural soap, and you're good to go. Hold yourself accountable and wash your brushes weekly; your skin will thank you.
#15 Have Fun and Be Creative
At the end of the day, applying makeup should be enjoyable and something you look forward to. We each have our own style and makeup is a fun way to express our individuality. Choose makeup that enhances your natural features and helps you feel confident. There's nothing like a bold lip when you're feeling tired. Instant mood boost.
Enjoy your makeup and make sure you feel beautiful without it. True beauty comes from within and nothing shines brighter than a good heart.
