HOW SUGAR AFFECTS COLLAGEN and AGING

Have you ever wondered why no matter what lotion, potion, or supplement you take you just can’t seem to get rid of those pesky signs of aging? Well, sugar could be the culprit. AGES ( advanced glycation end products) are proteins bound to sugar moieties such as glucose, fructose, etc., resulting in damaged cross linked proteins and inflammation. Eating an excess of sugar causes wrinkles and unwanted signs of aging Sugar attacks healthy and strong collagen by degrading it resulting in dull skin and an increase of wrinkles. The more sugar you eat the more AGES are produced which damage the elastin and collagen that keep your skin looking youthful. When precious collagen and elastin is damaged it becomes dry & brittle and leads to sagging and wrinkles. So how can we prevent this from happening? The key is to reduce sugar intake. That means white sugars, brown sugars, agave, maple syrup, honey, and any sugar substitutes. Also decreasing foods that cause inflammation in the body such as processed foods, fried foods, and foods full of preservatives. Another important factor to keep in mind is that foods such a pastas, grains, breads, etc turn into sugar in our bodies once metabolized so keeping those in moderation will have a positive effect on our health and production of collagen. As well as excess fruit consumption.
