Holistic beauty tips for clear and healthy skin
#1 Go Skincare-Free One Day a Week
One of my favorite holistic beauty skincare hacks, which I’ve sworn by since my teenage years, is taking one skincare-free day each week. That’s right—no cleanser, no toner, no serums, moisturizers, or oils. Absolutely nothing.
It may sound surprising, but our skin has an amazing ability to self-regulate, and it doesn’t always require external products to stay healthy. In fact, the less we interfere, the better our skin often behaves. This minimalist approach, commonly referred to as skin minimalism, helps to strengthen the skin barrier, soothe irritation, balance natural oil production, and offer your skin the much needed respite it deserves.
Let’s be honest, when we continuously strip our skin of its natural oils and layer on complex products with long ingredient lists, it can overwhelm our skin. Taking a skincare break at least once a week is an easy yet powerful way to support your skin and minimize the number of ingredients your body needs to process.
And don’t worry—you won’t age prematurely or suddenly get dry skin. Your skin naturally produces sebum (oil). By skipping products for just one day, you allow your skin to find its own balance and glow naturally.
Pick one day a week to skip your skincare routine, and let your skin breathe. It’s a small act of self-care that can bring lasting benefits over time and supports aging gracefully. This holistic skincare hack for glowing skin really works!
Pro tip: To really give your skin a break so it can balance and glow naturally, read my natural beauty blog article about the importance of minimizing the ingredients in your beauty products, know as skinminimalism.

#2 Skip your Morning Face Cleansing
A fantastic skincare hack, which I’ve been practicing for years, is skipping the morning cleanse. That’s right—no washing your face with cleanser first thing in the morning. I know it sounds unconventional, but hear me out. Overnight, your skin naturally works to repair itself, and your natural oils play a crucial role in protecting your skin throughout the day. When you wash your face first thing, you’re stripping away those essential oils, disrupting your skin’s natural balance.
Let me tell you, the natural oils your skin produces while you sleep are one of the best anti-aging treatments out there. So why would you want to cleanse this free and effective natural beauty treatment away every morning?
How to skip your morning cleanse for healthier skin:
Gently rinse your face with lukewarm water or simply spritz your skin with your favorite natural beauty facial toner. This way, you’re allowing your skin to maintain its natural oils, rather than stripping them away each morning.
The benefits of not cleaning skin in the morning:
Skipping your morning cleanse can help to reduce dryness, irritation, and redness while keeping your skin hydrated throughout the day. Plus, it’s a great way to maintain a more minimalist skincare routine and it's an easy DIY beauty hack for sensitive skin.
Give it a try, and see how your skin responds. You might just find that less really is more!
Pro tip: If you're using a traditional retinol skincare product please read this: it's important to take precautions, as retinol can make your skin more sensitive to the sun and not cleansing your face in the morning might be an issue. A holistic skincare approach is to try natural alternatives to retinol for holistic beauty. A great holistic alternative to consider is bakuchiol, a plant-derived ingredient that mimics the effects of retinol but is gentler on the skin. Unlike retinol, bakuchiol can be used both day and night, making it a perfect option for those looking for a more natural, sun-safe alternative.

#3 Switch to A Silk Pillowcase
If you’re looking for a simple but impactful skincare hack, consider swapping your cotton pillowcase for a silk or satin one. Did you know that cotton pillowcases can actually pull moisture away from your skin? This can lead to dryness, premature skin aging, and dull skin. Since we spend about 8 hours a day sleeping, why not make the most of that time by sleeping like a princess on silk? It's an easy way to protect your skin while you rest. This holistic beauty approach is all about aging gracefully, and a silk pillowcase plays a significant role in that.
Not only does it help prevent the formation of skin creases and minimize the pressure on your skin, but it also reduces skin friction for fewer wrinkles Plus, unlike cotton, silk doesn’t absorb moisture, which means your skin stays hydrated overnight. Imagine waking up with soft, smooth skin—without the added effort.
Incorporating a silk pillowcase into your natural beauty routine is a small, mindful change that goes a long way toward maintaining your skin's youthful glow and preventing the need for harsh treatments and procedures. Simple yet effective, this skin hack is the perfect addition to a holistic beauty routine focused on aging gracefully and naturally.
I love my silk pillowcase so much I have three of them. When traveling, I always bring mine with me to ensure my skin stays healthy and smooth. This silk pillowcase makes a significant difference in my natural beauty routine.
#4 Use Honey As a Natural Face Mask
I’ve been using honey in my beauty routine since I was a teenager, and for good reason—it works! Honey is packed with antioxidants and natural antibacterial properties that make it a powerhouse for your skin. When applied as a face mask for just 10-15 minutes, raw honey helps nourish and hydrate your skin, while reducing inflammation and preventing breakouts. And the best part? It’s gentle enough for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
The beauty industry has led many of us to believe that skincare products with long, complicated ingredient lists are more effective. But I don’t buy into that, and neither should you. Honey is a simple, yet incredibly effective, face mask that makes your skin glow—plus, it’s cost-effective and natural. This is holistic beauty at its best.
Trust me, as a licensed cosmetologist and holistic beauty expert, I wouldn’t be slathering ingredients from my kitchen on my face for the last 30 years if they didn’t truly work. Honey isn’t just a sweet treat—it’s a skincare secret that’s stood the test of time.
How to use honey as a natural face mask for clear skin:
Use Manuka Honey for the most effective holistic beauty face mask. If you want to take your honey face mask to the next level, I highly recommend using Manuka honey—that’s what I use. It’s known for its powerful antibacterial and healing properties, making it one of the most effective natural skincare ingredients. You can also opt for raw honey, which shares similar benefits, but Manuka honey really packs a punch when it comes to nourishing and healing your skin.
Just a quick note—don’t use your everyday pasteurized honey for this. Pasteurized honey loses many of its beneficial enzymes and nutrients during processing, so it won’t offer the same skincare benefits. Stick with raw or Manuka honey for the best results, your skin will thank you.

#5 Try Caffeinated Tea Bags for Tired Eyes
This may sound a little strange, I know, but trust me, it works! And the best part? It’s way more cost-effective than those pricey eye creams filled with questionable ingredients. Since my teenage years, I’ve been using black tea bags on my eyes to reduce puffiness and dark circles, and it works like a charm. I used to suffer from allergies, which left me with puffy eyes. So, I turned to tea bags as a simple solution, and voila—problem solved. If you suffer from dark circles or puffiness you're going to want to try this natural skincare tip to reduce puffiness and dark circles.
Here’s why it works: the caffeine in the tea helps constrict blood vessels, reducing swelling and dark circles. Plus, the natural tannins in the tea have anti-inflammatory properties that soothe and calm the delicate skin around the eyes. It’s an easy, natural skincare hack that is super relaxing.
How to Use Teabags for Puffy Eyes and Dark Circles: A Natural Remedy
Steep two caffeinated black or green tea bags in hot water for 3-5 minutes, ( I prefer black tea).
Once the tea bags are ready, let them cool down for a few minutes so they’re comfortable to the touch.
Lie down and place one tea bag over each eye, making sure they cover the under-eye area where puffiness and dark circles tend to form.
Relax for 10-15 minutes while the caffeine works its magic.
Remove the tea bags and gently pat the skin around your eyes with your fingers to absorb any remaining moisture.
These simple, gentle, non-toxic skincare tips for glowing skin at any age can make a world of difference in how your skin looks and feels. By incorporating these easy holistic beauty practices into your routine, you can embrace a healthier, more minimalist approach to skincare that nourishes and supports your skin's natural balance.
Don’t be afraid to experiment and find what works best for you. Whether it’s using DIY honey as a face mask, skipping the morning cleanse, or trying a silk pillowcase, these small adjustments can lead to big improvements. Give them a try and let your skin glow naturally! Cheers to holistic beauty and wellness.
